Great Day for Literature lovers

Are you also a 'bookworm', then you should probably read this post. Today is a big day for all of you. Today is the birthday of two great persons in the history of English literature. Let's see who.

The first one is Allen Lane. Do you know who he is, he is the founder of the most famous book publication 'The Penguin Books' with his two brothers Richard and John. Allen Lane Williams was born to Samuel and Camilla Williams in Bristol on 21 September 1902. In 1919, he joined the company Bodley Head as an apprentice to his uncle and founder of the company John Lane. He rose quickly in the business by becoming the managing director of the company in 1925, after the death of his uncle. After conflict with the board of directors, he founded the Penguin Books in 1935 with his brothers Richard John as a part of the Bodley Head. The legend goes that on a train journey back visiting from Agatha Christie in 1934, Lane found himself on Exeter Station with nothing worth for reading. He conceived of paperback editions of literature of proven quality which would be cheap enough to be sold with a vending machine, the first was set up in Charing Cross Road and dubbed the 'Penguincubator'. The paperback venture was extremely successful. In 1965, during an attempt by Tony Godwin and the board of directors to remove him, Lane stole an entire copy of a book and burnt it (the book was called Massacre written by the French cartoonist Sine and was extremely offensive.)
Lane fired Godwin and continued to work in the Penguin Books until he got bowel cancer. He died in 1970 at Northwood, Middlesex.

The other one is H. G. Wells. The writer of The Invisible Man, The Time Machine and many more. Herbert George Wells was born in 1866 to Joseph Wells and Sarah Neal. He was the fourth son. His father owned a shop which sold china dishes and potteries and also was a professional cricketer and his mother was a former domestic servant. The shop was not flourishing and his father doesn't earned much by playing cricket. A life turning event happened with young Wells in 1874 when he was bedridden by a broken leg. His father brought books for him by the nearby library. Slowly, he devoted himself to the books. Later that year, he joined Thomas Morley's Commercial Academy which usually focused on Copperplate Handwriting and sums useful for tradesmen (according to Wells). He stood there until 1880 when his father fractured his Thigh. The family income drowned and they suffered from a financial crisis. He spent his childhood in very much crisis but all of this inspired his writing later. He had written many novels, short stories based on different topics.
Shayni Foods salutes both of them for their unforgettable contribution. And again, this is a big day for all literature lovers so, celebrate it.
